Why it matters
The title tag is the main headline shown in search results and a strong relevance signal.
How to fix it
Write a unique, descriptive title of roughly 30 to 60 characters that includes the page's main topic.
Write a good title
- Put the main topic first: "Trail running shoes for wide feet | Brand" rather than "Brand | Shop | Shoes".
- Keep it roughly 30 to 60 characters so it is not truncated in results. See Title over 60 characters.
- Make every title unique. See duplicate titles.
Why titles go missing
Templates that print the title from an empty CMS field, single-page apps that set the title only in JavaScript, and error or utility pages built outside the main template. If the title is added by JavaScript, turn on JavaScript rendering to see what search engines that render the page will see.
How it affects your score
Finding this issue on any page costs the On-Page SEO score 8 points, plus up to 25 more depending on the share of crawled pages affected. As a critical issue type it also takes 3 points off overall site health (critical deductions stop at 15 points). Blocks indexing, breaks pages or loses traffic. Fix these first.
Find the affected URLs
Open Crawl > Issues and pick Missing title tag. Each affected URL is listed with its evidence, and Copy URLs or Export URLs hands the list to a developer. The issue also appears in the Action Plan, ranked by impact (high) and effort (low), and in the issues CSV under the code title_missing. After fixing, run a new audit and use Compare to confirm the URLs moved to fixed.
