Independent SiteAuditLint analysis
SiteAuditLint reached 100 URLs on ebay.com, but 73 were redirected to eBay's bot verification pages and 7 category pages returned 403. Only 4 pages returned analyzable HTML, so this audit reflects how ebay.com responds to an automated crawler more than its full page inventory.

What stood out
Overall assessment
Most of this crawl measured eBay's bot protection. Of 100 URLs, 73 returned a 307 redirect to a /splashui/challenge or /splashui/captcha page, 7 category browse pages returned 403, and 13 account URLs were excluded by robots.txt. That left 4 pages with content to analyze.
Those 4 pages (the homepage, /deals, /deals/home-garden and /authenticity-guarantee) returned titles and meta descriptions on all four. The flagged items on them are small: one missing H1, missing Open Graph fields and two links to eBay subdomains that loop in redirects.
Two findings carry beyond the crawler response. /authenticity-guarantee canonicalizes to the non-www https://ebay.com/ version, which itself redirects, and robots.txt splits AI crawlers, allowing search agents while blocking training agents.
Audit methodology
SiteAuditLint started from the website's homepage and crawled up to 100 URLs by following discoverable internal links and the URLs listed in the XML sitemap. Results represent the URLs reached during the crawl and do not constitute a complete audit of the entire website.

Major findings
1. Requests redirected to bot verification
HighFinding: 73 URLs returned a 307 Temporary Redirect to https://www.ebay.com/splashui/challenge (32) or https://www.ebay.com/splashui/captcha (41).
Why it matters: This is bot management, not a site structure issue. It limits what a third-party audit can measure. The relevant check is whether verified search engine crawlers receive the page itself. See status codes.
| URL | Response |
|---|---|
https://www.ebay.com/b/ATV-Side-by-Side-UTV-Parts-Accessories/43962/bn_562707 | 307 to /splashui/challenge |
Recommended fix: Confirm in server or CDN logs that verified search engine crawlers receive 200 responses for browse and listing URLs.
2. Category browse pages returning 403
HighFinding: 7 /b/ category pages returned HTTP 403, and the homepage links to them.
Why it matters: SiteAuditLint rates these as critical because they look like broken pages linked from the homepage. Alongside the verification redirects, the 403 most likely reflects access rules for automated clients.
| URL | Result |
|---|---|
https://www.ebay.com/b/Computers-Tablets-Network-Hardware/58058/bn_1865247 | HTTP 403 |
https://www.ebay.com/b/Womens-Clothing/15724/bn_661783 | HTTP 403 |
https://www.ebay.com/b/Toys-Hobbies/220/bn_1865497 | HTTP 403 |
Recommended fix: Verify these category URLs return 200 for search engine crawlers.
3. Canonical pointing to the non-www host
MediumFinding: https://www.ebay.com/authenticity-guarantee declares its canonical as https://ebay.com/authenticity-guarantee, a host that 301 redirects to www.
Why it matters: A canonical should point to the final URL. Pointing to a redirecting host sends a mixed signal about the preferred version.
| URL | Canonical |
|---|---|
https://www.ebay.com/authenticity-guarantee | https://ebay.com/authenticity-guarantee |
Recommended fix: Update the canonical to the www version.
4. Links to subdomains with redirect loops
LowFinding: All 4 analyzable pages link to https://mesg.ebay.com/mesgweb/ViewMessages/0 and https://resolution.ebay.com/, both of which ended in too many redirects.
Why it matters: These are signed-in destinations, so a redirect loop for a logged-out client may be expected. The links appear in shared navigation.
Recommended fix: Confirm logged-out visitors are sent to sign-in rather than a loop.
5. AI crawler access split
LowFinding: robots.txt blocks GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, CCBot and Applebot-Extended. It allows OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-SearchBot and Google-Extended. No llms.txt was found.
Why it matters: The pattern allows search and user-initiated agents while blocking most training agents. PerplexityBot, a search crawler, is blocked. See AEO / GEO audit.
Recommended fix: Confirm PerplexityBot is meant to be blocked.
What's working well
- No 5xx responses across 100 URLs.
- All 4 analyzable pages have a title and a meta description.
- The non-www domain 301 redirects to https://www.ebay.com/ in one hop.
- Account and My eBay URLs are excluded through robots.txt.
- No slow responses, mixed content, missing HSTS or missing viewport tags.

On-page counts (titles, descriptions, headings, canonicals) are measured across the 4 URLs that returned an HTML page with a 200 status.
Audit limitations
The crawl was limited to 100 URLs and started from the homepage, so only URLs discovered through internal links and the XML sitemap are represented. A 100-URL crawl does not represent the entire website. Findings reflect the site at the time of the crawl on October 4, 2026. SiteAuditLint analyzed the HTML returned by the server, so content added later by JavaScript and responses that differ for automated clients may not match what a browser shows. This audit evaluates technical observations, not overall business or search performance.
Because 73 URLs were redirected to verification pages and 7 returned 403, on-page metrics describe only 4 pages and should not be read as representative of ebay.com as a whole.
SiteAuditLint also reported tracking (Google Ads, Meta Pixel) without a detected consent tool on the homepage. Consent tools often load by script after the initial response, so that result is not treated as a finding here.
This is an independent SiteAuditLint analysis of publicly accessible pages. It was not requested or endorsed by eBay, and it does not imply that eBay uses SiteAuditLint.
