What stood out

0critical issues across 100 crawled URLs
52country-parameter URLs carry X-Robots-Tag: noindex, follow
42URLs responded in over 1 second, with a slowest response of 3,152 ms
69pages have HTML larger than 500 KB, including the 648 KB homepage
98%of crawled URLs returned 200 (98 of 100)

Overall assessment

Shopify's marketing site is in strong technical condition at the scale of this crawl. Every crawled URL used HTTPS, no 4xx or 5xx responses were recorded, all 98 pages had a title and meta description, and all nine AI crawlers checked are allowed in robots.txt along with a published llms.txt.

The largest finding by count is the set of 52 URLs with country and language parameters, such as /?country=us&lang=en. Each sends a noindex header and a canonical to its clean localized path. This reads as a deliberate pattern for handling parameter variants. The thing worth reviewing is that these URLs are linked often enough to take up more than half of a 100-URL crawl.

Performance and page weight deserve attention first. 42 URLs took over a second to respond and 69 pages exceed 500 KB of HTML. Heading gaps on 6 key section pages, including /blog and /news, are a quick fix by comparison.

Audit methodology

SiteAuditLint started from the website's homepage and crawled up to 100 URLs by following discoverable internal links and the URLs listed in the XML sitemap. Results represent the URLs reached during the crawl and do not constitute a complete audit of the entire website.

Major findings

1. Noindex on country-parameter URLs

Medium

52 affected URLs · SiteAuditLint severity: Warning

Finding: 52 URLs with ?country= and &lang= parameters return the header X-Robots-Tag: noindex, follow. All 52 also canonicalize to the parameter-free version of the page.

Why it matters: Noindex combined with a canonical to the clean URL keeps parameter variants out of the index, which is usually intended. The cost is crawl attention: these variants made up 52 of the 100 URLs SiteAuditLint reached.

URLEvidence
https://www.shopify.com/?country=us&lang=enX-Robots-Tag: noindex, follow
https://www.shopify.com/ar?country=ar&lang=esX-Robots-Tag: noindex, follow

Recommended fix: Confirm the pattern is intentional, then reduce internal links that point to the parameter versions so crawlers reach the canonical localized URLs directly.

2. Slow server responses

High

42 affected URLs · SiteAuditLint severity: Warning

Finding: 42 URLs took longer than 1,000 ms to respond. The median among them was 1,358 ms and the slowest was 3,152 ms.

Why it matters: Slow responses delay every page view and reduce how many URLs crawlers fetch in a session.

URLResult
https://www.shopify.com/analytics1,060 ms
https://www.shopify.com/at?country=at&lang=de1,286 ms

Recommended fix: Review caching for the marketing pages and the localized variants, starting with the slowest URLs in the crawl export.

3. Large HTML documents

Medium

69 affected URLs · SiteAuditLint severity: Opportunity

Finding: 69 pages return more than 500 KB of HTML. The homepage is 648 KB.

Why it matters: Large documents take longer to download and parse, particularly on mobile connections, and often indicate inlined data or markup that could be deferred.

URLHTML size
https://www.shopify.com/648 KB
https://www.shopify.com/?country=us&lang=en648 KB

Recommended fix: Audit the shared page template for inlined JSON, SVG and repeated navigation markup that can be loaded separately.

4. Missing H1 on section pages

Medium

6 affected pages · SiteAuditLint severity: Warning

Finding: 6 pages have no H1: /blog, /channels, /climate, /investors, /news and /partners/directory. A further 3 pages have more than one H1, with /payments using 4.

Why it matters: The H1 states the primary topic of a page for users, screen readers and crawlers. Hub pages like /blog benefit most from a clear one.

URLEvidence
https://www.shopify.com/blogNo H1
https://www.shopify.com/investorsNo H1
https://www.shopify.com/payments4 H1 tags

Recommended fix: Add one descriptive H1 to each hub page and convert extra H1s on /payments and /editions to H2s.

5. Links to redirecting internal URLs

Low

38 affected pages · SiteAuditLint severity: Opportunity

Finding: 38 pages link to internal URLs that redirect, most often the login link /login?ui_locales=en, which 301 redirects to admin.shopify.com.

Why it matters: Each redirect adds a request before the destination loads. A sitewide header link multiplies that across every page.

URLEvidence
https://www.shopify.com/Links to /login?ui_locales=en [301]
https://www.shopify.com/?country=us&lang=enLinks to /login?ui_locales=en [301]

Recommended fix: Point the login link directly to the final admin.shopify.com URL in the global navigation.

6. Title and description length

Low

46 titles under 30 characters · SiteAuditLint severity: Opportunity

Finding: 46 titles are under 30 characters and 26 are over 60. 40 meta descriptions exceed 160 characters. 2 pages contain two title tags.

Why it matters: Short titles leave out context and long ones are cut off in results. Duplicate title tags leave it to the search engine to choose one.

URLEvidence
https://www.shopify.com/ar?country=ar&lang=esTitle 17 characters
https://www.shopify.com/Title 66 characters
https://www.shopify.com/international2 title tags

Recommended fix: Remove the second title tag on /customer-accounts and /international, then review localized title and description templates for length.

7. Broken outbound links

Low

3 affected pages · SiteAuditLint severity: Warning

Finding: 3 pages link to external URLs that return 404, including a merchant site on /climate and a themes collection on /international.

Why it matters: Dead outbound links send visitors to error pages. See broken link checker.

URLBroken target
https://www.shopify.com/climatehttps://ethicalbedding.com/ [404]
https://www.shopify.com/internationalhttps://themes.shopify.com/collections/selling-internationally [404]

Recommended fix: Update or remove the 3 links.

What's working well

  • All 98 HTML pages have a title and a meta description, with no duplicate titles.
  • All nine AI crawlers checked are allowed, and an llms.txt file is published.
  • 12 pages carry FAQ or Q&A structured data, and only 4 pages lack structured data.
  • No HTTP pages, mixed content, missing HSTS or missing viewport tags.
  • No pages deeper than 4 clicks and no orphaned pages among those crawled.

Priority fixes

  1. Reduce response times on slow URLsStart with the slowest localized and product pages. Pages affected: 42
  2. Trim HTML weight in the shared templateRemoves size from most marketing pages at once. Pages affected: 69

Audit limitations

Scope of this audit

The crawl was limited to 100 URLs and started from the homepage, so only URLs discovered through internal links and the XML sitemap are represented. A 100-URL crawl does not represent the entire website. Findings reflect the site at the time of the crawl on October 4, 2026. SiteAuditLint analyzed the HTML returned by the server, so content added later by JavaScript and responses that differ for automated clients may not match what a browser shows. This audit evaluates technical observations, not overall business or search performance.

SiteAuditLint reported no analytics or tag manager in the raw HTML of the crawled pages. Tracking that loads through scripts after the initial response would not appear in this check, so that result is not treated as a finding here.

This is an independent SiteAuditLint analysis of publicly accessible pages. It was not requested or endorsed by Shopify, and it does not imply that Shopify uses SiteAuditLint.
